Sénanque Abbey
Notre-Dame de Sénanque, an Abbey steeped in history
The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque is located in the Vaucluse region (84), in the heart of the pretty village of Gordes. A Cistercian monastery founded in 1148. Today, it is one of the “Three Provençal Sisters” along with Silvacane Abbey and Le Thoronet Abbey. Notre-Dame de Sénanque is now the priory of the Abbaye de Lérins, a monastery located in the Vallon. It is still occupied by a community of Cistercian monks. Notre-Dame de Sénanque boasts a Romanesque cloister, with galleries made of relieving arches. This abbey is just 55 minutes from Camping le Mas de Nicolas, in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
Today, part of the abbey is open to visitors (monks’ dormitories, abbey church, cloister and chapter house), while the other part regularly hosts exhibitions by the association incitation à la création, as well as a museum and souvenir store.
