In the Bouches-du-Rhône region (13), in the heart of the Alpilles mountains, set at 245 m on a rocky plateau, the town of Les Baux de Provence offers breathtaking panoramic views. The village, listed as “one of the most beautiful villages in France”, boasts 22 listed historic monuments.

This stronghold of a feudal estate that controlled 79 surrounding towns and villages was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. The Princes de Baux controlled Provence for many years, earning themselves a strong reputation.
Today, the town of Les Baux is one of the most visited in the region, with over a million tourists a year… for a village of just 500 inhabitants.
The citadel of Les Baux, located at the far end of the village, is a must-see, 7 hectares in size, where you can discover the vestiges of the past: medieval castle, towers, keep, exhibition of siege machinery, chapel… a formidable history of Provence told in a vast setting of stone and rock.
